Industrial Hygiene Technician

Review, evaluate, and analyze work environments to improve environmental health;
Conduct microbial, lead, asbestos, and industrial hygiene inspections, sampling, and abatement oversight;
Perform survey and assessment for jet and metal fume exhaust exposure, acid mist, respirable dust, noise, etc.;
Perform portable water, fire, smoke, ash and soot sampling and radon survey;
Design programs and procedures to control, eliminate, and prevent disease or injury caused by chemical, physical, and biological agents or ergonomic factors;
Prepare inspection reports based on the inspection findings;
May conduct inspections and enforce adherence to laws and regulations governing the health and safety of individuals;
Bachelor Degree in Industrial Hygiene or related field.
AHERA Building Inspector and Contractor/Supervisor Certifications.
USEPA Lead Risk Assessor Certification.
Travel throughout the state of Arizona.
Mostly one day at a time with no overnight stays.

Safety Training

We offer the following Safety Training courses:

OSHA 10 Construction – 10 hours of classroom time (approximately 12 hours total)
- A 2-day course for front-line workers in the basics of construction safety. Provides construction workers information on how to identify, abate, avoid, and prevent job hazards on a construction site. Course topics include introduction to OSHA, preventing falls, preventing electrocutions, personal protective equipment, and health hazards in construction. The course can be customized for your specific trade or type of construction work.
OSHA 30 Construction – 30 hours of classroom time (approximately 32-34 hours total)
- A 4 to 5-day course for supervisors/foremen in construction safety. Provides workers with supervisory and safety responsibilities with information on how to identify, abate, avoid, and prevent job hazards on a construction site. Course topics include introduction to OSHA, preventing falls, preventing electrocutions, managing safety and health on construction sites, and Foundations for Safety Leadership. The course can be customized for your specific trade or type of construction work.

- A 4 to 5-day course for supervisors and/or those who desire teaching OSHA 10 and 30 hour for General Industry. Provides workers with supervisory and safety responsibilities with information on how to identify, abate, avoid, and prevent job hazards in the workplace. Course topics include introduction to OSHA, preventing falls, preventing electrocutions, managing safety and health on construction sites, and Foundations for Safety Leadership. The course can be customized for your specific trade or type of construction work.
Construction and General Industry Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) – 2 hours
- An overview of types of personal protective equipment that may be required on a construction site and proper maintenance of that equipment.
Construction and General Industry Health Hazards – 2 hours
- Construction workers are exposed to a variety of health hazards, every day, that can result in injury, illness, disability, or even death. An overview of health hazards that may be encountered on construction sites such as lead, silica, and asbestos.
Trenching & Excavation Safety – 2 hours
- Basic safety regulations for trenching, shoring, and excavations. Excavating is recognized as one of the most hazardous construction operations. Fatality rate for excavations is twice that of construction as a whole. Cave-ins are the number one hazard.
- This is an awareness level class.
- NOTE: This is NOT a competent person level class.
Materials Handling Safety – 2 hours
- Basic safety regulations for forklifts, overhead cranes, slings and wire rope.
- This is an awareness level class.
- NOTE: This is NOT a competent person level class.
Scaffolding Safety – 2 hours
- Basic safety regulations for all types of scaffolding used in construction.
- NOTE: This is NOT a competent person level class.
Stairway & Ladder Safety – 2 hours
- An overview of safety regulations for all types of stairways and ladders used in construction.
Hand & Power Tool Safety – 2 hours
- The basics of hand and power tool safety and the requirements of the OSHA regulations.
Introduction to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) – 2 hours
- An introduction to OSHA, their mission, and resources.
Concrete & Masonry Construction Safety – 2 hours
- A safety discussion for concrete and masonry construction.
Confined Space Entry in Construction Safety – 2 hours
- Basic safety regulations for confined spaces found in construction. This is an awareness level class.
- This is an awareness level class.
- NOTE: This is NOT an entrant, attendant, entry supervisor, or competent person level class.
Construction Ergonomics – 2 hours
- Ways to avoid sprains, strains, and other muscular injuries on construction sites.
Fire Prevention & Protection – 2 hours
- A safety discussion on your fire prevention program and fire extinguishers.
Writing Your Workplace Safety Program – 2 hours
- Learn how to write your workplace safety program and the elements required in Nevada.
Foundations for Safety Leadership – 3 hours
- Learn how having safety as a value will save you money and maximize your profits! Start or improve your safety culture at your company. This program will introduce you to 5 critical safety leadership skills you can use to improve safety climate and safety outcomes on the job site.
Silica – Competent Person – 4 hours
- Competent person level training for silica exposures in construction.
Silica – Awareness – 2 hours
- Awareness level training for silica exposures in construction.
- NOTE: This is NOT competent person level training.
Hazardous Materials Worker: HAZWOPER Initial training [40 hr]
- Intended for site workers; operators; handlers; personnel at treatment/storage /disposal facilities.
Hazardous Materials Worker: HAZWOPER annual Refresher [8 hr]
- Offered in compliance with OSHA Annual Refresher training requirements. Instructional focus in this one-day update is: regulatory review; standards for generators; hazard communications; site safety considerations; emergency response actions; waste-handling techniques, and operations and planning.
Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) – Awareness – 2 hours
- Awareness level training for HAZWOPER.
- NOTE: This is NOT competent person level training.
- You will NOT be able to do hazardous waste work after this class.
- This class is awareness level ONLY!
Bloodborne Pathogens – 2 hours
- Basic safety regulations for working around blood and the potential hazards found in blood.
Lock Out/Tag Out/Try Out Safety – 2 hours
- An overview of electrical safety and the Lock Out/Tag Out/Try Out (LOTO) program.
Demolition Safety – 2 hours
- A safety discussion of demolition.
Electrical Safety – 2 hours
- A general discussion of electrical safety on construction sites.
Fall Protection – 2 hours
- An overview of fall prevention and fall protection systems used in construction.
- NOTE: This is NOT a competent person class.
Respiratory Protection – 2 hours
- A discussion of respiratory protection required elements and their application in the construction industry.
OSHA Recordkeeping– 2 hours
- Learn how to fill OSHA required injury and illness forms (OSHA 300 forms) and how to determine if you have an OSHA recordable injury or illness.
Heat Related Illnesses– 2 hours
- Learn the types of heat related illness and how to prevent them.
Hearing Conservation in Construction– 2 hours
- A general overview of how to protect your employees hearing and the application in construction.
Walking/Working Surfaces Safety– 2 hours
- The basics of preventing slips, trips & falls in your work environment.

Environmental Training

We offer the following Environmental Training courses:

AHERA Asbestos Awareness training [2 hr]
- This two-hour training is designed for school custodians, building owners, property managers, or interested personnel in facilities containing asbestos.
AHERA Asbestos Worker: Initial training [32 hr]
- This four-day training, approved by the Environmental Protection Agency, is mandatory for any workers removing asbestos in schools and all personnel involved in asbestos- related activities in public and commercial buildings.
AHERA Asbestos Contractor Supervisor: Initial training [40 hr]
- This EPA-approved five-day class is intended for supervisory personnel who direct asbestos abatement projects.
AHERA Asbestos Project Designer: Initial [24 hr]
- This 3-day course, approved by the EPA, provides an asbestos abatement project overview from the standpoint of: design concepts; preparation of contract and project specifications; cost estimation considerations and compliance with Federal and Regional regulations. (Pre-requisite: Contractor/Supervisor)
Asbestos Operations and Maintenance [16 hr]
- Under federal regulations, this training is mandatory for all engineering, custodial and janitorial personnel involved with disturbing asbestos containing building materials.
AHERA Asbestos Worker: Refresher [8 hr]
- AHERA-accredited personnel are required to attend an annual recertification class.
AHERA Asbestos Building Inspector: Refresher [4 hr – morning]
- AHERA-accredited personnel are required to attend an annual recertification class.
AHERA Asbestos Management Planner: Refresher [4 hr – afternoon]
- AHERA-accredited personnel are required to attend an annual recertification class.
AHERA Asbestos Contractor Supervisor: Refresher [8 hr]
- AHERA-accredited personnel are required to attend an annual recertification class. Contractor/Supervisors attend a yearly 8-hour update.
AHERA Asbestos Project Designer: Refresher [8 hr]
- AHERA-accredited personnel are required to attend an annual re-certification class.
Asbestos Operations and Maintenance: Refresher [8 hr]
- Refresher training is mandatory for all engineering, custodial and janitorial personnel involved with disturbing asbestos containing building materials every 12 months.
EPA Lead Abatement Inspector: Initial [24 hr]
- This training provides information for individuals who perform lead-based paint inspections and/or clearance examinations on abatement and renovation projects. This course will teach the legal and technical issues and obligations facing inspectors when inspecting for lead hazards.
- This class will teach individuals how to determine whether or not lead-based paint or other lead hazards are present in sufficient quantities to require abatement according to regulatory guidelines.
EPA Lead Abatement Worker: Initial [16 hr]
- Meets the requirements for lead workers included in 40 CFR 745 Subpart L. Certificate of completion is issued upon successful completion of class. The course covers basic requirements and new techniques and developments. Includes: roles and responsibilities, health Issues, background information, hazard recognition and control, abatement methods, and regulations.
EPA Lead Supervisor: Initial [32 hr]
- Meets the requirement of Section 402 of the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA, 15 U.S.C. 2682), and other requirements found at 40 C.F.R. part 745, Subpart L. The course includes HUD 2nd. Edition 2012 Guidelines and other applicable regulations. Course topics include: Roles and Responsibilities of Supervisors, Background Information and its Adverse Health Effects, Review of Federal, State and Local Regulations, Interior Dust Abatement and Cleanup.
EPA Lead Risk Assessor: Initial [16 hr]
- Meets the requirement of Section 402 of the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA, 15 U.S.C. 2682), and other requirements found at 40 C.F.R. part 745, Subpart L. Course topics include: Roles and Responsibilities, Review of Federal, State and Local Regulations, Liability and Insurance Issues, Risk Assessment and Inspections.
EPA Lead Renovation, Repair, Paint (RRP): Initial [8 hr]
- Beginning on April 2010, The Environmental Protection Agency required that all companies performing renovation, repair and painting (RRP) and disturb LBP in pre- 1978 homes, child care facilities and schools be certified. The rule affects paid renovators, including but not limited to:
  - Painters
  - Demolition
  - Specialty Trades
  - Property Owners Working on Rental Property
  - Maintenance Workers in Multi-Family Homes
- To protect against the risk of hazardous dust and chips generated by common renovation activities like sanding, cutting and demolition, Companies involved in this type of activities, must use certified renovators who are trained by approved training providers to follow safe work practices.
EPA Lead Inspector: Refresher [8 hr]
- EPA Lead Inspector personnel are required to attend a recertification class every three years.
EPA Lead Abatement: Refresher [8 hr]
- EPA Lead abatement worker personnel are required to attend a recertification class every three years.
EPA Lead Supervisor: Refresher [8 hr]
- Accredited re-certification course required every three (3) years to maintain certification. Topics include a review of the original class, review of federal and local regulations, and new developments and techniques. A copy of the Initial certification or latest current Refresher is required for this class.
EPA Lead Risk Assessor: Refresher [8 hr]
- Accredited re-certification course required every three (3) years to maintain certification.
